The North American business is headquartered in Schaumburg, IL (Chicago-area), with a production facility in Urbana, OH and distribution hubs in Houston, TX and Sparks, NV. The North American business has annual revenues of $250M, with plans to grow to $500M by 2024. To support this growth, Rittal seeks to hire a Director, Human Resources over the Urbana, OH site, totaling 200+ employees with plans to grow to 400+. The Director of HR will provide leadership for the HR program at the Urbana site, with a focus on talent management, employee engagement, and training & development. The role will have 5 direct reports and report directly to the VP of HR. The ideal candidate will possess: (1) HR leadership experience in a manufacturing or distribution operation of appropriate size and complexity; (2) a track record of building and improving organizational capabilities across the full spectrum of HR functions; and (3) the communication, collaboration, and influencing skills necessary to succeed in a high-growth environment.

The Role

To support the growth of the North America business, Rittal seeks to hire a Director, Human Resources over the Urbana, OH operation, totaling 200+ employees with plans to grow to 400+. The Director of HR will provide leadership for the HR program at the Urbana site, with a focus on talent management, employee engagement, and training & development.

Specific objectives include: (1) Build a strong partnership with the VP Operations in Urbana, VP of HR in Chicago, and global leaders in Germany, (2) Provide strategic and tactical direction and guidance for HR in Urbana, OH, (3) Lead Talent Management, Employee Engagement and Training & Development, and (4) Improve recruiting, hiring, and retention.

Experience & Requirements

• Talent Management. Establish talent management for the shop-floor workforce and management with focus on recruiting, retention, succession planning, diversity, and identification of high potential employees.
• Performance Management. Track and improve Key Performance Indicators related to recruiting, turnover, costs, and other important factors.
• Training & Development. Direct and supervise the HR-Operations team, providing training and coaching needs and develop programs to effectively support team member development at all levels.
• Employee Engagement & Culture. Develop and implement programs and communications to promote a positive work environment. Identify issues and concerns that may impact employee engagement and develop solutions to address.
• Compensation & Benefits. Expertise in compensation and benefits, particularly healthcare benefits.
• Compliance. Maintain knowledge of changing laws that impact the organization. Initiate changes and communication about compliance issues when appropriate. Consult with legal counsel on employee relations and contractual issues.
• Manufacturing. Strong understanding of HR challenges & opportunities in a manufacturing setting, including labor relations. A trusted partner to manufacturing leaders.

• 10+ years of progressive experience in HR, including 3+ years in leadership roles
• Demonstrated expertise of a broad range of HR topics (HR strategy, talent management, performance management, training & development, employee engagement, compensation & benefits, compliance)
• At least 3+ years working in a manufacturing/industrial environment
• Strong business acumen and awareness; talent acquisition skills and ability to transform HR programs
• Excellent communication skills with diverse groups (corporate, manufacturing, leadership, shopfloor, etc.)
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships across functions, levels, and locations
• Able to lead through influence, gain buy-in, and drive change
• A player-coach; able to think strategically and lead teams while also being a hands-on leader and digging into details
• A proactive, self-motivated, fast-paced approach
• A builder and change agent.
