Director, Purchasing & Inventory Management

Uline is the leading distributor of shipping, packaging, industrial, and janitorial materials to businesses throughout North America, with over 40,000 products offered via same-day shipping. Founded in 1980, Uline is a family-owned company that has grown to over $11 billion in revenue and more than 9,000 employees. The company operates 13 warehouse locations throughout the US, Canada, and Mexico, with 14 sales offices.

The Role

To support the company’s continued growth and “always in-stock” customer promise, Uline seeks to hire a Director of Purchasing & Inventory Management. The Director will lead purchasing and inventory management teams to monitor inventory levels, develop forecasts for future demand and stocking strategies, build vendor relationships, and partner with merchandising on vendor and product initiatives.

Experience & Requirements

•15+ years of relevant supply chain management experience, including purchasing, inventory management, demand planning, and vendor management, ideally in a distributor or retailer of appropriate size and complexity.
•Proven team leadership experience, including skills in recruitment, training, and people development.
•Strong attention to detail combined with “big picture” strategic capabilities.
•Past success scaling and optimizing supply chain processes to support growth.
•Experience collaborating cross functionally with Supply Chain and Merchandising to improve end-to-end supply chain performance; leads through influence.
•Track record of data-driven decision making, leveraging ERP, WMS, and TMS systems to drive performance improvements; Oracle experience preferred.
•Strong project management skills, including stakeholder?, timeline?, and meeting management skills; demonstrated excellence in managing internal customers.
•Experience applying Continuous Improvement, Lean, and Six Sigma principals to drive improvement.
•Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills; comfortable and credible with both internal stakeholders and external audiences.
•A flexible, dynamic, self-demanding and proactive individual; able to motivate him/herself and others; a natural bias for action and ability to deal with ambiguity.
