The Company

athenahealth is a ~$5B software solutions company developing cloud-based practice management solutions, point of care mobile applications, and EHR systems for more than 140k small to midsized physician practices and hospitals. The company offers revenue cycle management as well as patient engagement services and clinical records management services. Athenahealth is headquartered in Watertown, MA, and has ~6,000 employees. In November 2021, the private equity firms Bain Capital and Hellman & Friedman acquired athenahealth to continue to rapidly scale the business.

The Role

athenahealth’s Advisory Services business generates revenue through the sales and delivery of fee-based professional services that include consulting engagements and staff augmentation. The Advisory Services business is run as a distinct P&L and has been growing 30% annually, currently with ~$20M in revenue, and a total staff of ~80 FTEs. athenahealth has identified the Advisory Services business as a top priority for growth and is currently investing in the business intending to grow it to $100M+ annually.

Experience & Requirements

•15+ years of demonstrated leadership experience in a professional services context.

•Comfort working and multi-tasking in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

•Demonstrated track record of driving top-line revenue growth.

•Strong growth orientation with the understanding of how to equip teams with the right resources and strategic guidance.

•Ability to digest complex processes into high-level, executive-facing narratives

•Exceptional financial management skills; interprets financial data for effective decision-making; leads strategic planning and budgeting processes.

•Able to achieve or exceed performance results through effective team and individual performance, setting clear goals, and managing accountability.

•Manages change through influence; capable of driving buy-in and change across a diverse set of internal stakeholders; collaborative and team-oriented.

•Excellent presence, communications, and stakeholder management skills; Credible with cross-functional teams and external partners.
