VP, Operations – Metglas

Proterial AmericaConway, South Carolina | February 9, 2026

The Company

Metglas, Inc. is a world-leading producer of amorphous metal ribbon, with
roots dating back to the 1970s as part of Allied Signal. Today, Metglas’
proprietary manufacturing technology supports critical applications across
advanced energy, defense, and industrial markets, where performance,
efficiency, and reliability are paramount. Metglas has pioneered proprietary
manufacturing processes that enable superior efficiency and performance
in next-generation transformer cores and related applications. Metglas
operates a single, highly specialized manufacturing facility in Conway, SC and
employs approximately 180 associates today, with plans to grow headcount
materially alongside automation and capacity expansion.

Metglas is a subsidiary of Proterial America, part of Proterial, Ltd., a global
advanced materials company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, with
approximately $7B in revenue and worldwide manufacturing, R&D, and
commercial operations. Formerly known as Hitachi Metals, Proterial was
acquired by Bain Capital and rebranded in 2023, bringing renewed
investment focus and growth ambition to the platform.

Bain Capital is a leading global private investment firm, with approximately
$185B in assets under management. The firm invests across a diverse range
of industries, including industrials, technology, healthcare, consumer,
financial services, and real estate.

Metglas’ Conway facility currently operates as a ~$60M business and is
expected to scale toward ~$500M in revenue over the next five years
through capacity expansion, operational efficiency gains, and increased
customer demand. While the company has historically operated as a stable,
technically excellent manufacturer, the business is entering a pivotal phase
of growth driven by powerful macro tailwinds, including accelerating grid
modernization, increasing power demand from AI-driven data centers, and
anticipated regulatory mandates requiring broader adoption of amorphous
steel. The current environment requires the organization to develop the
processes, systems, and operating discipline of a significantly larger
enterprise, including potential additional manufacturing sites.

The Role

The Vice President of Operations will serve as the senior on-site
operational leader for Metglas’ 24/7 manufacturing facility, with
responsibility for all aspects of plant performance excluding Finance, HR,
and IT. Reporting to the President & COO, this role represents a critical
leadership transition as long-tenured technical leadership increasingly
shifts focus toward enterprise-level priorities and future site
development. The role will have 6 direct reports (R&D, Engineering,
Procurement, Operations Management, a metallurgist, and a planner),
with a total team of ~135.

This leader will oversee Manufacturing, Engineering, Production Planning
& Control, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Facilities, Logistics, and EHS,
ensuring world-class safety, quality, delivery, cost, and scalability. The role
requires comfort operating with ambiguity, building structure where little
exists, and translating strategic growth plans into executable outcomes on
the factory floor.

The Vice President of Operations will own the delivery of Metglas’
manufacturing strategy, balancing near-term execution excellence with
longer-term capacity expansion and operational scaling. This leader will
drive safety, quality, throughput, cost control, and continuous
improvement while developing leaders, systems, and processes capable
of supporting significant growth in a highly technical, regulated
environment.

• Plant & Safety Leadership. Champion a safety-first culture as the
organization’s top operational priority, ensuring compliance with
OSHA, EPA, ISO 9001, ITAR/EAR, and other regulatory requirements.
Establish disciplined operating standards across a 24/7, multi-shift
manufacturing environment.
• Operational Excellence & Delivery. Own end-to-end manufacturing
performance, ensuring high-quality products are delivered on time
and within cost targets. Drive uptime, yield, and throughput
improvements across complex, proprietary production processes.
• Scaling, Capacity & Capital Management. Lead plant expansion
initiatives, automation investments, and capital planning to support
rapid revenue growth. Oversee facilities, maintenance, and asset
reliability while preparing the operation to scale from a single-site
footprint to a multi-site future.
• Continuous Improvement & Lean Transformation. Foster a culture of
continuous improvement through the application of Lean
manufacturing and Six Sigma tools. Reduce cost, increase capacity,
and improve efficiency while maintaining product quality and
employee safety.
• Cross-Functional & External Partnership. Partner closely with
Engineering, R&D, Sales, and senior leadership to align operational
capabilities with customer demand and growth objectives. Serve as a
key interface with Federal and State agencies, including DOE and DoD,
to support compliance, incentives, and strategic programs.
• Leadership, Talent & Culture. Lead, mentor, and develop plant
leadership and frontline teams, maintaining high employee
engagement in a demanding, high-accountability environment.
Communicate business objectives clearly from the boardroom to the
shop floor and model a visible, hands-on leadership presence.
