Foundation Building Materials (FBM) is an industry leading building materials and construction products distribution company. With over 300+ locations across the U.S. and Canada, FBM has an expansive North American reach with a mission to serve the changing needs of the professional construction trades. FBM specializes in the local supply of specialty building products including suspended ceiling systems, fiberglass reinforced panels, and materials such as drywall, steel studs, plaster, stucco, framing, metal, and insulation. Individual FBM regions and locations are designed to be flexible enough to cater to the unique building materials requirements of each geographic market. Whether it’s climate, building codes or varying types of construction, all FBM locations aim to reflect the local nature of the building materials business.
In 2021, FBM was acquired by CD&R and American Securities and has since grown organically and through strategic acquisitions, including its combination with Beacon’s interior products and insulation businesses. Through these initiatives, the Company has strengthened its market presence, expanded its product and service offering to customers, and grown its employee base and footprint in key regions throughout North America. Since 2011, the company has acquired over 60 businesses in their space and continues to keep an active pipeline of potential strategic investments.
The Role
As part of the company’s growth agenda, FBM is investing in its leadership team and is now seeking to hire a Vice President of Safety. The Vice President will set annual safety objectives and targets, spearhead and direct the execution of safety initiatives, monitor and audit progress and results, and recommend policies and procedures refinements to reduce safety risks and occupational health issues and promote a safety-first culture. Additionally, the position will ensure safety programs meet OSHA requirements and FBM’s standards and will partner with Human Resources to execute workers’ compensation programs. This role leads a Corporate and field-based Safety team, reports directly to the SVP of Operations, and can be based remotely near a major airport ideally in Central or Eastern time zones.
Experience & Requirements
• Functional Leadership. Provide leadership for the safety, and compliance function as it specifically relates to OSHA standards. Leadership responsibilities include strategy development and implementation; operating plans and budgets; recruiting, staffing, and leadership development; operations policies and procedures. Establish a reputation for excellence in employee safety and foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and delivering distinctive and measurable results.
• Health and Safety Management. Safe work practices, personal protection, behavioral-based programs, hazard identification and control, injury management, corrective action resolution, and physical safety systems. Experience implementing and leading programs for compliance with OSHA.
• Compliance and Assurance. Auditing, record keeping, permitting, reporting and notifications, related regulatory and compliance audits and related activities, resolution of compliance issues, and monitoring of the regulatory environment. Align with industry standards, regulations, and internal policies, ensuring ongoing compliance and operational integrity.
• Risk Management. Establish a proactive, risk-based approach to identify and mitigate various risks (e.g., workers’ compensation, physical risks, compliance findings) by implementing systematic risk assessments and mitigation plans prioritizing high-impact areas
• Continuous Improvement. Health and Safety training programs (regulatory, awareness, and competency) and incorporation of Lean and Six Sigma principles (Gemba walks, etc.)
